About Us - Glider Fleet
The club fleet consists of a tow plane, single seat and two 2-seat gliders. The 2-seaters are used mainly for instructional flying training and local flying. Club pilots fly the single seaters on local and cross-country soaring flights. Our principal training glider is a Grob Twin Astir, a sleek fibreglass glider of German manufacture. Our flagship is a Glaser-Dirks DG-1000 high performance two-seater. One single seater is a Schleicher Ka6CR, a venerable wooden aircraft, easy to fly and still very popular both in NZ and world-wide. The Ka6 is over 40 years old and is still regularly used for cross-country flights. Our Glaser-Dirks DG-202 is a modern fibreglass glider of high performance for extended flights away from the airfield.
